Why We Raise Pork the Way We Do - Flacco Land and Livestock

Across the country, small farms like ours are part of a growing movement — people working to produce food with more care, transparency, and connection. It’s not about being “right” or “better than” anyone else. It’s about being intentional — knowing what matters to us and to the families who choose our pork.
For me, it started with a simple goal: I wanted to know where my family’s food came from, and I wanted to provide them with the best I could. The surest way to do that was to raise it myself. That’s how pork became part of our farm — not just another product, but a way to take responsibility for what we eat, as well as, share that opportunity with others.
Large-scale operations have done what they needed to do to keep food affordable and available, and that’s important work. But because we aren’t large-scale, we have the opportunity to focus on something different — quality, care, and doing things the natural way. From feed to finish, every decision comes back to the same foundation: producing healthy, high-quality food the way God intended, without the pressure to conform to the industrial system.
Our goal has never been about size. It’s about purpose. It’s about building relationships, paying attention to the details, and helping people reconnect with where their food comes from.

This movement isn’t about competition. It’s about community — families, farmers, and customers choosing food that reflects their values: honesty, health, and trust.
Whether it’s a pack of bacon, a roast, or a few chops, every purchase helps strengthen a network of farms and families who care about how food is raised and who it’s raised for.
The future of food isn’t about one “right way.” It’s about more people caring enough to ask why — and choosing food that feels like home; that's our goal here at Flacco Land and Livestock.
